The J.H. Elliott History Forum

Welcome to the launch of the J.H. Elliott History Forum and website.

The Forum has been established by a group of Sir John Elliott’s friends, family, colleagues and pupils to preserve, promote and disseminate the intellectual legacy of one of the most significant historians of the past sixty years. Its intention is to support individuals and institutions engaged in the fields of Sir John’s research and encourage future generations to share not only an interest in history but an awareness of its role in shaping global events.

The Forum’s Goals

In keeping with this ambition the Forum has four primary goals:

Support & Provide Opportunities

To support and provide opportunities for students, young academics and other early career historians to engage with the writing and teaching of J H Elliott by facilitating research, archival access and connections with leading scholars.

Organise Periodic Symposia

To organise periodic symposia, conferences and lectures centered on different aspects of Elliott’s work and the fields of research shaped by his scholarship.

Collect & Present Elliott’s Work

To use this website to collect and present Elliott’s books, articles, reviews, lectures and conference papers, both published and unpublished, to the widest possible audience. The evolving site will also collect and present biographical material – testimonies, appreciations and obituaries as well as informal memoirs and recollections – including photographs and artworks connected with Sir John’s visual interests.

Encourage New Work

To support and encourage the publication of new work inspired by Elliott’s scholarship, interests and fields of research.
